Politics again
Our lunch time has been dominated by politics these days. We've been having heated discussions over which party is better for the past few days. Seems like the older ones are pro government and the younger ones are so anti government. My younger colleague who is in her twenties seem very anti government. But her reasons for supporting the opposition is very silly. She says she knows who to vote for because people who own private properties are not allowed to buy HDB flats. And she is not even thinking of buying a house herself. She's single and lives with her parents. So what's her problem? I'm surprised that a remark like that would come from an educated person like herself. It's frightening to note that even some educated people would follow the crowd blindly. There are people who make passing remarks without understanding things from an overall country's point of view. I think that the ministry of education should make macro economics a compulsory subject from primary school onwards. Does this sound ridiculous? Ok maybe from secondary school then. They could simplify the subject so that the next generation would appreciate what is going on in the news better and the reasons why there are levies, taxes and even ERPs. There are many people out there who has never studied economics at all because of the paths they choose after their O levels. Most people don't have a clue why things are the way they are and think that our leaders are corrupted. They don't see things from a macro point of view. It's sad. There is nothing I can do to change their mindsets. I don't know what to expect if the opposition takes over. I hope that things don't get messed up badly.
