Twilight - For Movie, Halloween and Birthday Party Ideas

The Timing is Perfect for Twilight Party Ideas.

With the movie DVD being released soon and with all of us dazzled fans waiting for news about New Moon...the second book in the Saga and the next movie to be made, this is going to be a very popular party theme. The Saga was written by Stephanie Meyer and it has four books in it. The third book is Eclipse and the fourth...and final book is Breaking Dawn. The story covers a couple years in the lives of Edward Cullen...a Vampire, and Bella Swan...his human soul mate. Not only is this Vampire romance Saga a really good read, it gives us lots of reasons to have a Twilight Party!

How Good a Story is It?

I've been in a Twilight Fog since I read the books. I picked the first one up and a week later I put the final novel down, still wishing there were more to read! I think about Edward and Bella most of the time, and every day I have a new favorite character because they are all so likeable! Yes, even Rosalie! It takes awhile, but fans even warm up to Rosalie once they hear her story.

Party Ideas?

Yes, there are so many parties you can use a Twilight party ideas with. The first one that comes to mind is a Movie Party. Since the movie is being released on DVD in March you can be the first one to have a party. Just get some red soda and put some red butter on your popcorn...and maybe drizzle some melted chocolate on it too..and you are set. Movie parties don't require too much prep since the theme is the movie. You can order pizza, serve some drinks and a dessert if you like, it's an easy party to host.

Halloween Parties are Perfect for Twilight Party Ideas...with the whole Vampire thing going on. Why not have a Vampire theme Halloween Bash or A Couples Costume Party? Invite your friends to come dressed as any kind of Vampire or as a famous Vampire Couple. Alice and Jasper, Rosalie and Emmett, Carlisle and Esme, and of course, Edward and Bella. But there are more couple ideas to think about. The Volturi Vamps from Italy are great for your gory minded friends, you know, the ones who like human blood sucking versions of Vampires, rather than the mild, animal blood drinking ones.

The Volturi couples costumes can use Jane and Alec, Felix and Demetri, Heidi and Aro, or Marcus and Caius as inspirations. Or the Volturi would make a great group costume idea and so would The Cullen Clan. How about going as the human residents of Forks? The werewolves are another couples costume idea. Go as Jacob and Leah or Sam and Emily. Breaking Dawn gives us loads of couple Vampire costume ideas...you remember all the friends of the Cullen's we were introduced in the final book of the Saga. If you are really into vicious Vampires there's always James and Victoria. There are Life Size stand up cut outs of Bella, Edward, James, Victoria and Laurent to use as decorations that will make an impression. In fact, they might freak some of your party guests out! Twinkle lights have to be part of the decorations or Alice will be so disappointed! Alice, the Cullen Family party planner, just loves to use twinkle lights at all her parties.

Birthdays are Another Great Reason to Use Twilight Party Ideas.

You know your tween or teenager, the one that has read the entire Saga, will just love this party theme and so will all their friends. You can even plan 16th birthday parties around Twilight. There are some very different color schemes you can use. Decorations can use the black and red book covers, or go light with lots of flowers and twinkle lights, like Bella and Edward's wedding reception. Vampires used to be dark and evil, but after reading about the Cullen's you can go with light and bright colors too.

Whatever party theme you use make sure to include some fun games when you're planning your party. Movie parties can always fit in a trivia contest. Make your questions about the movie and the characters. Birthday and Halloween parties can use trivia too...but there's other games you can include like: Twilight Charades, Outburst, A Vampire Dress Up Relay Race, and of course with Halloween, the Costume Contest! Whatever the reason for using Twilight party ideas, you and your friends are sure to have a good time!

Romantic Movies With Witches To See On Halloween

I Married a Witch (1942)

'I Married a Witch' with Veronica Lake and Fredric March could be the foremother of all romantic comedies about a witch in love with a "mortal man". It is based on a novel 'The Passionate Witch' by Thorne Smith.

The movie begins during the Salem witch-hunts. Veronica Lake's witch character Jennifer, and her father, are burned, and she casts a spell on the witch-hunter, Jonathan Wooley, played by Fredric March. He and his male descendants will always marry the wrong woman. After an expose of generations of Wooleys miserable in their marriages, we enter the present day, where the current Wooley, played by March, is about to marry. The witches' spirits are released from the prison where they have been waiting after their bodies burned, and they start haunting Wooley. Things turn, and Jennifer falls in love with Wooley, just as we knew she would.

Will she be able to stop his marriage? Will her father be able to stop her from marrying Wooley? Will he love her even after he knows she's a witch?

Bell, Book, and Candle (1958)

'Bell, Book, and Candle' is not based on a book, but on a play. In it, a witch, Gillian (played by Kim Novak) tries to spoil a man's engagement to her college enemy, but she falls in love with him in stead, and loses her magic. The man, Shep (James Stewart), finds out that she's a witch, and goes to another witch (who happens to be Gillian's mentor), who breaks Gillian's love spell, and Shep leaves Gillian. Will he manage to get his fiancée back? Will Gillian get her magic back?

This movie has some interesting sidekicks, like Gillian's brother, also a witch, played by Jack Lemmon.

'I Married a Witch', 'Bell, Book, and Candle' and the 60's TV series 'Bewitched', have very much in common. The movies were probably the reason why the television series was created.

Bewitched (2005)

This movie is based on the television series popular in the 60's. The movie doesn't manage to create the charm of the television series, and many fans of the original series were very disappointed with the movie. I saw the movie before seeing any episode of the series, and I thought it was rather charming.

The movie depicts the making of a remake of the television series. Will Ferris plays Jack, the actor going to play Darrin. He wants to find an unknown girl to play Samantha, and finds Isabel, played by Nicole Kidman, who happens to be a witch in real life. Isabel falls in love with Jack, but when Jack finds out she's a witch, he can't deal with it. It all ends up well, of course, as this is a romantic comedy, and the end of the movie has some lovely nods to the 'Bewitched' series.

The Witches of Eastwick (1987)

I am not sure I would call this a romantic comedy... Sure, it tells the story of three witches, who wish romance into their lives, and end up getting more than they can handle... Or so it seems. I think it is more a story of friendship and girl power, than about love. Nevertheless, it is funny, sexy and has magic, demons, witches and weird things happening, so I add 'The Witches of Eastwick' to this list of romantic witch movies to watch at Halloween.

This movie has a great cast: the witches are played by Susan Sarandon, Cher, and Michelle Pfeiffer and the romantic male lead is played by Jack Nicholson. Veronica Cartwright as the Christian wife of the local newspaper editor, is wonderful in her role. This alone would be reason to watch this movie.

'The Witches of Eastwick' is based on John Updike's novel by the same name, but the movie is quite different from the book.

Practical Magic (1998)

The art directing of 'Practical Magic' is absolutely wonderful. The house was built just for this movie, and also demolished after the movie was done, but the interior decor was amazing. The cast mentions the decor having had influence on them. You can watch the movie just to get some ideas on how to decorate a witch's house.

'Practical Magic' is based on a book by the same name. It follows the story close enough so that the times when it doesn't, irritate me. Many others have said that they love this movie, so give it a try, despite my minor objection.

'Practical Magic' tells the story of a family of witches with a curse. Any man who falls in love with a woman in the family, will die tragically. In the current time, there are two sisters, Sally (Sandra Bullock) and Gillian (Nicole Kidman). Their mother died "from a broken heart", when their father died, and they are being raised by their mother's sisters, played by Stockard Channing and Dianne Wiest. Everyone in the village knows about the women being witches, and use their services during the night hours, and ostracize the women during the day. The girls are bullied all their childhood, and Gillian leaves the town, but Sally falls in love, gets married, has children and lives happily - until the curse hits her. Some time later Gillian is in big trouble, and she asks Sally to help her, which she does, but the trouble follows them home. How could this story end happily? Because, happily it ends, being a romantic comedy.

'Practical Magic' is partially very dark, including demonic possession and exorcism, but the end is very sweet.

A Green and Purple Halloween - Quick Guide to the Incredible Hulk Movie Costumes

According to Marvel comics, gamma ray turns you green. At least that's how it's been since 1962 when the Hulk was brought to life by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. She-Hulk, Doc Samson, and the Leader all share origins with the Hulk from gamma ray exposure and they all have green skins.

So in 2003, upon release of Ang Lee's Hulk movie, lots of fans ran around in green bodypaint hopefully with purple pants (or any pants), and a bad hair cut. The 2003 Hulk movie really made a splash in the costuming world. There were plenty pictures of fans in conventions dressed up as the green goliath, although some were not so goliath.

The recent release of the 2008 movie, The Incredible Hulk, adds another version of the Hulk's costume in the mix. Although the differences are minor, there are enough variances between the two Hulks that are noticeable. Note too that we're only talking about Hulk movie costumes here. The Red Hulk and Gray Hulk will be subjects of another article at another time.

Can you use the old Hulk costume to represent?

If your child was a toddler or infant then, the answer is obviously no since he or she is five years older now and the costume wouldn't fit. But you should learn the difference in case they want to be the Hulk again for Halloween this year and they know the difference.

First, note that many fans regard the 2008 movie as more loyal to the comic books. This mainly means the storyline, the villain, and the supporting characters. The 2003 movie is so universally rejected that the 2008 movie was dubbed a reboot. Basically, the fans view it as a "do over" so that the 2003 movie can be filed away.

But, here's a caveat for costuming. The 2003 Hulk image resembles the comic book Hulk better than the 2008 Hulk. Mainly, the trademark green skin and purple pants are better represented in the 2003 Hulk.

The 2008 Hulk is not far off, but he has variances. First, he doesn't wear the traditional purple pants. But the purple pants made the movie as an easter egg. Second, he has a darker shade of green and his veins show as noticeable streaks of an even darker shade of green. And lastly, his muscles are shown to ripple. Both the veins and the rippled muscles remind me of roided out wrestlers when straining for attention.

The above bit of information is helpful to you if the 2003 Incredible Hulk costume still fits any of your children. Maybe the teen can pass down the Hulk costume to the younger boy (or girl). You may be able to save money and reuse the '03 costume by telling them that it's the better version because it looks just like the comic books. Just point them to the green skin without streaks and the purple pants
